Weather, fire and flood checks by text from the trail, and a map that shows the folks at home where you are.

How it works

In BackpackerMap on your iPhone, tap the beacon and send. Your request goes out as a regular text, or as a satellite text on iPhones that can send one. The reply is one short coded text that BackpackerMap turns into the forecast for your spot: temperature, wind, rain, nearby fires and flash-flood risk.

Your map at home

Each request can drop a pin on your trip map, and your contacts can get an email showing the spot on a topo map.
